Last 24th of June 2019, student volunteers from Lingkod E.R. - UST along with ABS-CBN volunteers participated in the ABS-CBN DZMM Teaching, Learning, and Caring Medical Mission held at Brgy. Almanza Dos, Las Piñas. Volunteers were engaged in community work, story telling with the kids, assisting in check-ups and dental extraction. Other than offering free medical check-ups, ABS-CBN DZMM TLC Medical Mission also gave free reading glasses in collaboration with Ideal Vision Center, offering top-quality glasses for residents with poor eyesight. All in all the medical mission was able to assist over 200 people in four hours.

Lingkod E.R. - UST volunteers arrived in Brgy. Almanza Dos's Covered Court around 7AM on June 24, 2019 to assist the DZMM volunteers in setting up the medical missions stations. When the medical mission began accepting residents, student volunteers first assisted with registration. At the registration table, they had residents list their information for records, distributed raffle stubs and answered any questions.

The medical mission proper had six stations, for general check-ups, dental, medicines distribution, clothes distribution, glasses distribution, and food distribution. The community was given a talk from representatives of the Stroke Society of the Philippines to teach them about the symptoms, treatments as well as common misconceptions about the stroke. The speaker shared cardiovascular health advice and general health tips.

Ideal Vision Center partnered with DZMM to be able to provide free reading glasses to residents aged 40 and above. Based on the questions of residents at the registration table, poor or deteriorating eyesight is one of the main problems they face in old age.

Due to limited supplies, both the glasses and dental extraction stations were open to the first 70-100 beneficiaries. Members of the community lined up for general check-ups with volunteer doctors to receive medical advice and prescriptions for any medications they might need. At the dental station, beneficiaries received free tooth extractions and dentures. Care of the Pharmacy Unit of DZMM TLC, the medicines station released medicines as prescribed by the check-up station doctors, as well as vitamins and nutrient supplements for mothers and children. The clothes station distributed donations of clothing and footwear.

For the children, Lingkod E.R. - UST volunteered to join the storytelling station. Inside the ABS-CBN library on wheels, the children sat around our volunteers as they read stories that also taught important lessons. After each book, prizes were given to kids who were able to answer questions on the stories they listened to.

The medical mission ended at 12NN, having assisted more than two-hundred members of the Brgy. Almanza Dos community.
